Medical Marijuana

At Total Holistic Center, we utilize the natural resource of medical marijuana to combat the numerous medical conditions caused by deficient cannabinoid levels. The cannabinoids found in marijuana are an effective means of triggering necessary receptors that lead to optimal health.

What is Medical Marijuana?

Marijuana, better known as cannabis or hemp, is one of the oldest and most widely used plants in the world. It has a broad spectrum of applications most interestingly as a widely used medical remedy before it was prohibited in 1937 by the US Government.

Medical marijuana became legal in florida with high THC available in 2016 after legislature passed Amendment 2. This allowed qualified physicians to order a gamut of options for patients, through a state designed system, from state licensed dispensaries.

Florida law defines medical marijuana as all parts of any plant of the genus cannabis, whether growing or not; the seeds thereof; the resin extracted from any part of the plant; and every compound, manufacture, salt, derivative, mixture, or preparation of the plant or its seeds or resin, including low THC cannabis, which are dispensed from a medical marijuana treatment center for medical use by a qualified patient.

What is Marijuana or Cannabis?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD) are the two main active cannabinoids in cannabis. A cannabinoid is a chemical compound that reacts with receptors in the body, affecting and altering neurotransmitter releases.

Cannabinoids work with the brain to provide natural relief. When they enter the body, they stimulate cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body and can create various beneficial medicinal effects.

What is the Endocannabinoid System and a Cannabinoid ?

Your body makes compounds called “ cannabinoids” like Anandamide (AEA) , and 2-Arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) naturally in order to control inflammation, homeostasis (overall balance of your body and organs), mental equilibrium (affect the areas of the brain that are responsible for feelings of reward), and certain processes of the gastrointestinal system (regulate hunger).

These naturally occurring endocannabinoids regulate our body’s response to stressors and promote balance for proper bodily system functions.

There are many exocannabinoids (made outside of your body) that include phytocannabinoids (plant made cannabinoids) such as tetrahydacannabinol (thc) and cannabidiol (cbd) found in cannabis.

Exocannabinoids act the same as their counterparts made within the body and bind to the same receptors like “CB1” found in the central and peripheral nervous system and “CB2 “ found in the immune system.

Dr. Anya Temer’s protocol guides clients through the process of obtaining their legal cannabis access and working to find the right combination of cannabinoids to help each client along the path to holistic health with almost no known side effects.
